FRANKFORT, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kylie Rapp, a junior at Clinton Prairie Junior-Senior High School in Frankfort, Indiana, is a finalist for a $25,000 Bridging the Dream Scholarship from Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company.

Rapp, 16, is an advanced placement student with a 3.76 GPA. She is captain of her volleyball team, mentors younger students, and is active in the school’s Key Club and Science Club. She is also president of the Clinton County 4-H Lama Club, where she helps members learn how to show and care for llamas and alpacas.

“While weathering the storms of life, Kylie has continued to excel academically and athletically, all while maintaining a positive attitude,” said Elaine Brovont, the Clinton County 4-H Lama Club leader who nominated Rapp for the scholarship. “Kylie is truly a joy to be around, and I can only imagine the amount of opportunities this scholarship would create for her.”

Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarships recognize inspiring high school juniors and seniors who excel in academics, athletics, community service, or school activities, but whose financial circumstances may not permit them to fulfill their college dreams. This year, Sallie Mae will award five $25,000 Bridging the Dream Scholarships to recipients selected from nominations submitted by high school counselors and community leaders across the U.S.

Members of Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship team, who are traveling around the country to visit and evaluate the scholarship finalists, will meet with Kylie next week. The winners will be announced before the end of 2017.

“The Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program exemplifies Sallie Mae’s desire to help ambitious students reach their potential, and we have been moved by Kylie’s story,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “We look forward to meeting and learning more about her and the rest of our inspiring finalists from communities across the nation this year.”
