NEWARK, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Boxfuls of backpacks, binders, and other school supplies were delivered
to the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington today by employees of
Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college
company, which just completed a Back-to-School Supply Drive at its
Newark headquarters. The company donated and collected nearly 3,600
items for local families.
“Thanks to the generous employees at Sallie Mae, we can assist more
families to help their children get ready for the new school year,” said
Tom Laymon, president and CEO of the Sunday Breakfast Mission. “By
giving them these school supplies, we are offering encouragement,
building their confidence, and motivating them to succeed.”
The Back-to-School Supply Drive marks the latest community outreach
project for Sallie Mae employees in Delaware. The company, which employs
more than 680 people in the state, also offers employees paid leave time
to volunteer, and provides monetary contributions through its charitable
foundation, The
Sallie Mae Fund.
“We are dedicated to giving back in the communities where we live and
work,” said Bonnie Beasley, senior vice president, Sallie Mae Bank, and
president, The Sallie Mae Fund. “We hope these supplies will equip
students with tools to achieve in the classroom and, ultimately, help
them on their journey toward college.”
The Sunday Breakfast Mission provides shelter for homeless men, women,
and children, plus a variety of other services, including meals and food
boxes, long-term substance abuse programming, counseling, and free
