NEWARK, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sallie Mae (Nasdaq: SLM), the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, and Chegg Inc. (NYSE: CHGG), a leading provider of digital student services, today introduced a newly enhanced studying and tutoring benefit to support student success. Study Starter is an exclusive benefit that gives students free 24/7 access to a suite of study support services from the Chegg platform. Sallie Mae is the first and only private student lender to offer this in-school benefit to its customers.

Study Starter is now available to all Sallie Mae undergraduate private student loan customers and Sallie Mae Parent Loan customers with a new loan. For Academic Year 2018-19, the benefit includes:

Four Months of Chegg Study – Connects students with Chegg’s Textbook Solutions and Expert Answers services that offer step-by-step solutions for thousands of the most popular college textbooks and access to a database of more than 22 million fully-solved study questions. More than 90 percent of students using Chegg Study say it helped them get their homework done with less stress.

30 Minutes of Chegg Tutors – Matches students with online tutors available 24/7 for instant or scheduled one-on-one help with an academic subject, coursework, or exam prep. Students receive instruction from tutors via video or text chat while sharing work on-screen. Eighty-nine percent of students using Chegg Tutors say it helped them get a better grade on an assignment or exam.

Four Months of EasyBib Plus – Unlimited access to a web-based bibliography generator that can create citations in various style guides; proof papers to prevent unintentional plagiarism; and a copyediting feature for grammar, spelling, and style feedback to improve writing skills. Eighty-four percent of students say EasyBib is the fastest way to make accurate citations.

First launched in 2017, the Study Starter benefit represents a shared commitment between Sallie Mae and Chegg Inc. to make college happen and improve student outcomes. The agreement extends through 2021.

“Sallie Mae shares Chegg’s dedication to supporting students to be both financially and academically successful,” said Mitch Spolan, executive vice president of marketing services, Chegg Inc. “We are delighted with the success of our program last year, and that Sallie Mae has now engaged in a multi-year partnership to benefit students across America.”

In addition to Study Starter, these Sallie Mae private student loans offer competitive fixed and variable interest rates with no origination fees or prepayment penalties. Customers can reduce their interest rate when they enroll in the automatic debit option and get free access to their FICO® Credit Score.

“Sallie Mae is committed to helping students get to and through school, responsibly and successfully,” said Kelly Christiano, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “The Study Starter service embedded in our private student loans is a real benefit that has been used for free by thousands of students, contributing to their success in college.”
